A few months ago I self-published a short book based on 10 blog posts. In fact, I booked the blog posts — I repurposed the material I had already published on my blog.
However, you can easily blog a short book starting today. This is a great idea if you already have a blog and don’t want to use it to blog a book. Or maybe you simply don’t want to start a blog as a way to write your book and then have to keep it alive afterward. Instead, go ahead and simply blog on a topic about which you simply feel passionate. Then spend some time blogging a short book amidst your other posts. When you are done you can go back to your “normal” blogging.
For instance, you can create a 30-day program for your chosen set of readers and write 30 posts. Start with an introduction and end with a conclusion. That’s 32 posts. Or you could compose two-weeks worth of tips for your readers with brief instructions on how to use those tips. Or simply write a short essay on a particular topic for 20 days; then compile them.
Any of these ideas — or one of your own, will result in enough copy to create a short book. Have a designer lay it out in a small format (4″x6″, for instance), and before you know it you’ll have a 100-page pocket sized blogged and now printed book.
So, today start blogging a short book. Why not? It’s quick. It’s inexpensive. You’ve got little to lose and a lot to gain.
