One of the primary reasons to blog a book revolves around creating visibility for you and your book. You want lots of potential readers to easily “see” you, or find you, on line so they will purchase your book. How do you create this visibility?
Here are the three primary ways to increase visibility for your book via your blog:
Publish a blog post often.
For the first 6-12 months that you blog your book, you need to post twice a week at a minimum; 3-5 times a week is better–or more. Hopefully, at the end of that time your book will be finished and you can just start blogging–or blog another book on a related topic.
Blog on a focused topic.
The more often you blog on the same topic, the more often you produce keywords and keyword phrases for spiders to catalog. That means your blog will steadily move its way up in the search engine results pages. When you make it to page #1, you become much more visible that you would be on page #10, for example. You will have provided search engine optimization (SEO) for your blog organically.
Create community as you blog.
Also, as you blog, you should be trying to create community:
- connecting with other bloggers
- leveraging social media
- forming online partnerships
- engaging your readers
If you do all these things well, you will find your blog, you and your blogged book–and eventually your printed or digital book, becoming more and more visible. You will be everywhere in cyberspace. When you put your name, the name of your book or the name of your blog into a search engine, you’ll find it coming up first. More important, when you put in related search terms (keywords), it will come up first or at least on that first search engine results page. That’s visibility. That means you and your blogged book are “discoverable.”
That means you will be able to attract more blogged book readers, sell more books or land a book deal.
Are you finding you and your blogged book are more discoverable the more you blog?

Simple tips, but they are effective. Thanks for the reminder – I am always in need of those.

This is a helpful post. I particularly like your point about creating a community as you blog. It seems like the social aspect of blogging is one of the most powerful ways a blog can help you gain new readers and fans. I need to remember this when I start getting overwhelmed by the more technical aspects of blogging! Thank you!
